How would you rate Governor Strickland’s job performance since taking office in January?

Mr. Strickland’s first few months have been “uneventful” in the negative sense that he has accomplished nothing. He ran his campaign essentially based on a broad attack against Republican corruption in the form of the Taft administration, and yet has been unable to keep corruption from showing up under his own administration within his first 100 days in office. This seems to be confirmation of the belief in a dysfunctional Democratic Party in Ohio which was held by the majority of the citizenry until this past election. I still feel that the election of Mr. Strickland was more a rejection of Governor Taft than an embracing of the Democratic Party. Business as usual for the Dems.

About as productive as the new Democrat Congress as a whole: Purely self-serving, unenlightened hackery. First out of the box was the product liability bill (that would have probably eviscerated a large state employer, Sherwin-Williams) he let slide too late and wound up in a law-suit, then it was the new budget he basically added millions to that was already bloated while slinking up to his teacher union sponsers trying to rid the state of further vouchers and capping charter schools. Then it was the refusal to allow Iraqi refugees in the state, no doubt to drive home the point that if it were’nt for incompetent and feckless Bush policies, he would’nt have to even deal with this problem.

While I am not at all surprised at this partisan poseur’s lack of accomplishment, I’m just wondering how the Republicans, being the majority, are really going to get down to addressing the real problems of this state like economic development and establishing a really competitive entrepreneurial regime for the 21st century, those questions that Ken Blackwell, among other things, had concrete answers for but for some reason were ignored by too many, including many in our state party.

Democrats elected to the House and Senate are trying to
destroy AMERICA!! As a CONSERVATIVE, his rating in my

    man is office???

GOD HELP US, ONE AND ALL!!!

I think his job performance is right on par with what the Democrats(and all of the conservatives and Republicans who stayed home last year in “protest”) wanted when they elected him.

As far as his high job approval ratings as of late…that I think is simply a lack of tenacity on our parts as Republicans.

So many are wanting to come across as non-combative with Democrats going into next year and all this is doing is simply opening the door wide open for (God help us) possible gains in the State Legislature next year.

If some Republicans would put as much effort into attacking the Democrats as when they come out of the woodwork to attack each other in Primaries and on other occasions the Dems wouldn’t have a chance.

For some reason there is this underlying fear of going on the attack against them that I can’t quite understand and wrap my head around.

I am not talking negative all the time, but take them to task for things that they are really screwing up. This goes at all levels of government.

James Carville said it best, “it’s hard for your opponent to attack you if you have your fist in his face”–I hate Carville’s politics, but that is spoken like a Marine and is a great quote.

Let’s all work together to show these wackjob Dems at all levels for what they really are.

I know I am preaching to the choir here, all of us on this blog are already active or we wouldn’t be taking time out of our day to post-talk to your friends though and when they complain about Dems ask them where they were in 2006 or if they plan on voting for Republicans in the next local election.

Thus far Governor Ted Strickland’s performance has been paradoxical. In other words, from one point of view he has been remarkable while from a second point of view he has been dismal.

    Beginning with the second…

Frankly, to this point, the governor has done little more than lurch to the left of his ambiguous campaign overtures. Everything from his ideas about ridding the state of school vouchers to numerous proposals that will increase spending and (likely) taxes to dropping the state’s fight against the RU-486 abortion pill, Strickland has spent most of his time throwing bones to his left-wing base.

Likewise, he has spent a great deal of time continuing his former role as congressman. In that I refer to several criticisms of President Bush (specifically his remarks about the Iraq War and Iraqi refugees), which seem, at a minimum, outside of his role as governor.

Fortunately for conservatives, Governor Strickland has moved on few of his ideas, which means that no more damage, in our eyes, has been done to the State of Ohio. It is in this way that he has been “remarkable.”

On the contrary, he has done little to ease the state’s woes. No market reforms to woo business and maintain existing jobs have been taken. Likewise, mere proposals, as bad as each one may be, are little more than lip service. In essence, Strickland’s very young tenure can accurately be described as the “Do Nothing” administration.

Given the governor’s ideas, such a legacy would be good for Ohio. Should he continue proposing big spending and social liberalism, let us hope he continues doing nothing.

Top ten Positives for Gov. Strickland: 1) He successfully repeated the Oath of Office; 2) I believe this was the first time that strippers marched around the Capitol; 3) [I'll have to post later as I am having trouble coming up with additional items]

  8. Edward Howard Says:

Absolutely the worst choice the Ohio electorate could have made in the last election.
